The most beautiful man in the world is not just physically exquisite…there is a heart of love and true compassion that beats in his chest…a lack of ego for one so perfect…his life has been a quest for knowledge and the shunning of stereotypes…he is a true artist…willing to be judged and criticized for the sake of his message and the delivering of his truth…

I have been fascinated by ‘dots’ since studying Art in High School…i vividly remember being shown the famous painting by Georges-Pierre-Seurat entitled ‘Sunday Afternoon on the Island of the Grand Jatte’…i marvelled at his ability to use tiny spots of colour to create such distinct images…

I have playfully used dots in my own paintings and drawings, finding them almost therapeutic in the placing of their singular colours…it was with great delight that i recently learned of the collaboration between Marc Jacobs and the amazing Japanese visual artist Yayoi Kusama…or the ‘polka dot lady’ as she is fondly referred to in my home…

Yayoi Kusama is an 82 year old artist born in Matsumoto City, Japan…according to my reading she began using dots in her drawings and paintings around the age of 10….

This brilliant woman has created paintings, Art installations, written poetry and novels…the colour and excitement of her ‘dots’ bring to life a world dull in its mediocrity…

If indeed ‘polka dots are a way to infinity’ then I can’t wait to see what the brilliance of Yayoi Kusama and the genius of Marc Jacobs will bring to light for Louis Vuitton this year….

My Jared photo for the week is in keeping with my theme of hats…Jared has proven time and time again to be a fearless fashion warrior, and i love his sense of who he is…

As global warming brings us the earliest summer ever in Toronto, i am contemplating buying a hat that will help me to disappear from the searing sun…i love hats…the weirder the better…i like bothering people by wearing things like ‘crocs’ long after everyone else has stopped wearing them…fashion is about being fearless…while most are fascinated with fashion most are afraid of making a statement…just walk down the street and count the number of black yoga pants…boring shoes…purses…and no hats!!!….go ahead…take a leap of fun and wear something crazy…i dare you…

and yes…i was one of the ones who loved Princess Beatrice’s Philip Treacey hat at the wedding of Prince William and Kate….Philip Treacey is a genius…

I’m a mess for Jareds’ mesh…how beautiful you are…
I remember as a child looking on top of my Mothers’ dresser and admiring a blue bottle with a magical silver top..I learned later in life that it was Evening in Paris perfume that my Mom had bought at a rummage sale for 25 cents…i have forever loved blue glass and pretty bottles…an allergy to all perfumes hasn’t stopped me from enjoying the beauty of their presentation.

Some of my modern favourites….

” I get my ideas out of my dreams…if you’re lucky enough to use something you see in a dream, it is purely original. it’s not in the world….it’s in your head “
ALEXANDER MCQUEEN

SARAH BURTON speaking of Alexander McQueen…
” He trained me to try to tell a story and to find a world that doesn’t necessarily relate to what everybody else is doing and to believe in your own instincts. He made you think that anything was possible. “

Sarah Burton commenting on her Fall 2012 Collection for Alexander McQueen:
“ THE FUTURE IS USUALLY SHOWN AS STARK AND COLD. I WANTED LIGHTNESS, THE SENSE THAT THE DRESSES WERE HOVERING….THE PROGRESSION FROM PURE WHITE TO THE GRAND FINALE OF RED AND BLACK…LIKE A JOURNEY FROM INNOCENCE TO EXPERIENCE “

Its time to forget about the past
to wash away what happened last
hide behind an empty face
don’t ask too much the same
